Want to block all the users of a Windows computer from opening some specific websites, no matter what browser they use or the time of day? You can do this by simply creating and editing little bit of windows internal files. This technique is simple and free, and it doesn’t need you to transfer or install any extra computer code. There are many softwares which are designed to do this but most of them are not free and free software comes with ads and privacy concerns, So In this article, I am going to tell you a method to block specific websites on your computer without installing any third-party software.
1]First of all Open Windows Explorer and open the following location:
(If Windows is not installed on C:, substitute the appropriate drive letter.)
2]Now, double-click hosts, and add extension “.txt” to the file and open that file in Notepad or any other editor
3]Now, Place the cursor at the end of the last line, which says the text line as “127.0.0.1 localhost” or “::1 localhost”. And now press the enter key to head towards new line.
4]Type 127.0.0.1, which is local address tap the spacebar once, and then you can write the address of website that you wish to block. For example, to block all traffic from Facebook, type 127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com on the line.
5]Continue to add the websites you want to block, note that you have to write 127.0.0.1 at the beginning of each new website.
6]Done! Now just save the file and remove the “.txt” extension to make the variable files should be readable by the windows program.
7] Close the browser and reopen it again and test the changes by typing the URL you have blocked on the website. Done! You have successfully blocked the website.
In addition to that, you can also block websites depending on the user’s and on timely basis.
1] Assuming that you are connected to WiFi do the following steps, Open a browser and enter your router’s IP address(192.168.1.1) into the address bar. You can also check it on Google or simply check on the bottom of your writer, you can also try a common address such as http://192.168.1.1, http://192.168.0.1, or http://192.168.2.1. which works for almost all routers.
2] Enter your username and password of your router and log in. If you don’t know remember the login credentials you can reset it.
3] Go to the Tab where settings allow you to block websites, computers, and access during certain times of the day. Router interfaces could be different, but all of them offers almost same functionality.
4] Enter the details of the website and the users you want to restrict and save your changes. Done!
Now you are all set.
